Related: About this forumI'm beginning to suspect I'm a crazy cat lady
My current inventory:
A frail 20-year-old black cat.
An 11-year-old black cat who hates me and everyone else except my sonshe adores him.
Two fat gray cats of indeterminate age who came with the house.
One thin gray cat I got in someone elses divorce.
A 16-year-old orange marmalade cat who demands ice in his water.
Another orange marmalade cat I got when someone moved.
A buff-colored feral cat with an ear tip who just decided to live here.
A young orange-and-white tomcat who I suspect has another home, but likes our buffet. I plan to neuter him soon.
Three foster kittens. I may keep one.
Two feral cats in cages from Mondays trapping and Tuesdays spaying. One is going back to her home turf in the morning; the other was only three poundsbarely big enough to spayand Im hoping to tame her, combo test her, and add her to my foster crew.

(7,911 posts)...at my age, and in my condition, any kitten I adopted would outlive me, and then end up in a shelter.

(4,168 posts)I'm only a year or two from retirement and in bad health. I'm in no position to take on any pet since they will most likely outlive me and I have no family to take them. Unfortunately, the local neighborhood kittens didn't get that memo.
We have three cats ages 1, 4 and 5 years old, who wandered into our yard as kittens and transitioned into house cats. (A fourth broke our hearts by dying of FIP earlier this year.) We also have a 5-year-old feral cat who resists being tamed but considers our yard his home and expects us to feed him.
There are also two 10-month old ferals in the alley behind our house who now depend on me for meals, even though they find me very scary and run if I get too close to them.

(17,277 posts)Im going to stop saying crazy like a fox and say crazy like a cat in your honor. You are a hero. I tear up thinking about the wonderful bed and breakfast (and lunch and dinner) you are providing. I too am partial to ice in everything I drink, so a special thank you for taking their special requests 🥰😍

(32,967 posts)Bluntly, can you afford that many kits? Who & how often are the pans changed?
I'm not meaning to sound harsh.

(15,088 posts)Everyone is well fed and vetted. Six litter pans cleaned twice a day, thank you very much.

(32,967 posts)I am feeding 3 ferals, one who is pregnant.
I am having an issue finding a rescue to get the pregnant cat & her sister.
It feels frustrating, the pregnant one want really wants in, but my 2 current living room lions will have nothing of that.

(15,088 posts)A fact of life in most areas is that animal control wants nothing to do with cats and shelters often have no room for cats. The universe has assigned you to take care of the kitties.

(115,673 posts)Thanks for looking after all those cats, including the ferals and the one who hates you. I'm down to one cat now - my two old boys passed away in the last couple of months - and I'd like to have more, but the last cat is a diva and I think she really likes having me to herself. We'll see. Cat ladies are never crazy. Cats keep us sane.
