Started a GF Me for my doggie's horrific dental situation, she's got abscesses... :( or a tumor?

I got my doggie as a rescue from some teens who neglected her for the first years of her life. At the time we had to do some major dental cleaning and even then the vet could't even guess at her age...I think she was about 2 but had the bad teeth of a 5+yr old...

Had at least one more basic cleaning through the years, but I knew it was deteriorating over the past couple years. But we've been struggling to just put food on the table so it was a thing I was hoping to save for or to even use tax return on...I even managed to get some $ on the books at the vets but we could never make the appt until we had ALL of it.

Last night she started acting weird and I got the lamp on and finally got my fingers in there and am horrified. Definitely at least one abscess on the gums and a very yukky loose molar. OMG my poor baby! I had no idea...she had to be in such pain I feel guilty as hell
I know it's no excuse, but i never had a dog before and probably screwed up by not seeing the signs or being more proactive in trying to brush her teeth...

The vet is working with us and even though they are booked the next 2 days they are trying to squeeze her in to get her started on antibiotics...I don't even know if they can do surgery till next week.
Meanwhile lots of hot compresses and CBD and soft food...and belly rubs.

get some Goldenseal Root powder and smear it on her gums and into the abscess, it should begin to heal within in hours. Keep doing it 2, 3 or 4 times a day. It's rather bitter, but not disgusting. It is a very very powerful antimicrobial. Good luck. It's rather inexpensive and you can get it in caps or powder. Usually, every health food store carries it.

along with arnica jel.

Good luck. You can rinse your baby's mouth out after you cover the wounds in goldenseal and let it sit a minute or two. I use it in every wound including abscesses and it is a miracle. have some treats on hand!

In like bulk, for really cheap per Oz...so I can fill up a little bottle. If it's just the powder, you just rub it on, no need to make into a paste?

I just heap it on my hand, fingers, and rub it in, pushing up into the gums so that it will start killing those nasty germs right away. Arnica tabs might help the pain. Not the jel as you must not get arnica into a wound.

The powder is best for sure, I buy it by the ounce or some small amount and it lasts for a long long time.

My cat, Leo, is going through something similar- he needs 4 more teeth extracted and just finished a course of antibiotics before his scheduled surgery. Pet dental stuff is soooo expensive!!!

Lots of love to you and Wafflez! Hope she is feeling better soon.

yea, i wish she qualified under my Medi-Cal!!! I can't qualify for that "care credit" thing, but I also have asked my parents to be on stand-by if they can pitch in cuz they love her as a grandchild!

Good luck with your kitty too... our furbabies are so very special

Preferably buffered. Depending on her size, give any where from half one (toy size poocher), up to 2, if you have monsters like we do.

is NOT an Advil or Tylenol type med. Google it to be sure. Straight up buffered aspirin is safest. Best wishes! I’ve been through a ton of dental stuff with my old dog.

Vet care can be expensive and I'm sorry you couldn't afford to take your dog to the vet on a annual basis, even if just for her basic shots and a check up. The gofundme account is good idea but you might also want to check with local humane organizations and rescue groups. Some offer assistance with food and other supplies.

I haven't usually poked past the outer edges of her teeth... But I opened her up to give her a pain pill (for dogs) and she has a HUGE globby pink thing on the roof of her mouth on the other side from this bad tooth.
you know how little white dogs get those weird skin tags? ya, like that, but like BIGGER than a quarter!

No wonder she's coughing/gagging... omg
and the vet is closed at noon today and didn't call me back

I am hoping I am just stupid when it comes to doggie oral physiology...it's hard to tell when everything seems so angry and swollen

she had her special soft food for dinner and I washed her mouth with warm salt compress, she was so damn good letting me do it and didn't even yelp. Now she's DONE with me and is going back to bed!
