Researchers administered personality tests to test subjects, including a question about their preferred canine breed.
What they found was that "low agreeableness" was the best predictor of a preference for dogs seen as more aggressive, such as bull terriers.
Researchers had independently rated various dogs according to how aggressive they are seen to be. Bull terriers and boxers hit the top of the list, while Cocker spaniels came in cuddliest.

(70,301 posts)that they don't know their dog breeds. is that why boxers are so popular there days? people perceive them as aggressive?
so very wrong. but still, i am not surprised to hear that people's preference is telling.

(13,468 posts)I've never met a Boxer that wasn't just a big, wiggly, ball of playtime. Their owners just seem like normal people.
Of course my husband and I are painfully OCD and we have a Border Collie Mix, but they didn't look into anything like that, LOL!

(11,065 posts)Besides, there's no such thing as an aggressive dog breed. Depending on how a dog is treated and trained will determine whether or not it is aggressive regardless of the breed... a labeled docile breed can turn out to be a violent maniac and a labeled aggressive breed can turn out to be a sweetie.

(13,468 posts)That's exactly how tiny terrors come to be. My Mom's Papillion is a biter because she was never given one minute of training in her life since Mom looked at training a dog as "being mean to it". The consequences have been bleeding hands for my Mother on many occasions and a poor dog that has barked almost continuously for 14 years.
I can compare that to my friend's 2 year old, male GSD who I have seen lie quietly at her feet in a room full of strangers for an hour then give everyone kisses on the way out.
