Bailee ate her safety cone.. Literally chewed it to pieces. She was a bit upset today and nipped my finger. I know she is uncomfortable and maybe be in some pain?
It's 9:00 PM and I am not sure what to do about the cone. I've read online that I can tie a sheet or blanket lightly around her neck? I just do not want her to eat her stitches.
Any ideas?

(30,058 posts)I had to do this. Thought I was going to have to cage her if I was not successful in getting her sister from getting the stitches out, Good Luck

(29,243 posts)go to a wallmart and see if you can buy a muzzle. Not my first choice but better than an emergency visit to the vet.

(17,049 posts)Tomorrow morning I'll head out to get her a new cone. UGH.
I put her in her kennel... it's a large kennel but she cannot turn around in it so maybe she'll be okay while I run to wally world.

(17,049 posts)Off to the dreaded wally world... I just dosed her a tramadol and maybe that will calm her down.

(15,805 posts)Can you pick up a larger cone from the vet? Otherwise there are alternatives to the cone of shame that you can buy, but some of the designs might be something you could easily custom make at home.

(15,805 posts)I just cut a couple of slits for the back legs which also keeps the shirt in place over the stitches. I had to use a safety pin to make the neck opening tighter, and another one on the back to keep the shirt snug. It worked great and she seemed to ignore it once she figured she couldn't do an licking.

(33,054 posts)I put her in one of my old t-shirts, duct taped the heck out of it, only on the t-shirt and then made a fast trip to a pet store with her to get a better collar. Duct tape wasn't easy to chew thru. Since she was part greyhound they got a Martindale collar with a soft cloth restraint that went over her shoulders and clicked locked shut on the back of the neck.
