Any advice? The kits & the big boy are currently using a bowl that they inherited from the dogs of blessed memories. I have very recently found all 3 of them getting drinks from the toilet tank, that water is turned over more often then the twice daily bowl refills.
Thanks

(11,330 posts)I've tried a few different fountains for my cats.
I've had the best luck with the catit fountain...it has a bubbler which keeps the water moving and because its mostly covered I don' t have much issue with debris finding its way into the fountain.
I keep fountains inside and outside for my cats.
if you give them dry food, they need water.

(2,192 posts)He's always been a big water drinker, unlike most cats. I had a plastic Drinkwell for a long time, but I don't like the way that the plastic eventually gets kind of "slimy" no matter how often I clean it and change the filters.
Still, when he's outside with me while I'm watering my plants, he likes to drink from the outside faucet. I've been wondering if anyone sells something that's just like a faucet.

(768 posts)We have the PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain. It has a charcoal filter in it. I clean it and change the water weekly and change the filter monthly.
The boys like to drink from the running water.

(16,296 posts)Cat loves it. Does require a monthly clean out, basically a good cleaning. Got another after first one died on me - my fault, didn't keep the motor cleaned out enough. Also, make sure the little "gate" on it is kept clean of cat hair or it will back up on you.

(15,805 posts)All my furry folk prefer the fountain over the regular water bowl, but they all drink from every source as they choose. I have placed their water throughout the house to encourage the boy cats the drink lots of water to avoid urinary problems. I think the kitties are just too lazy to trek into the kitchen for a drink, so I have a fountain conveniently placed where they spend the most time, in the living room and another in the master bathroom.
Its fun to watch them drink from the fountains and play with the stream of water. Definitely happy that I bought them.

(111,417 posts)Just make sure there's not a stream of water going into the bowl or it'll be everywhere as kitty discovers it's fun to play with.
Oxygenating the water helps a lot.

The best way to keep the cats from drinking out of the toilet bowl is to put the lid down. (I am a guy and my wife trained me well...)

(33,047 posts)The little plastic lever that lifts the floater when the handle is pushed down will eventually die. I have taken off the toilet tank top off so I can flush the last 2 days; this draws a crowd every time😺😺😺. That made me wonder about the bubbling water for them.
I will be going to the hardware store this weekend for a replacement part for the tank.
