You can't do better than that---happy chickens, fresh eggs, weed control, insect control, fertilize the yard.

And the chickens and rooster all have names. When they go to the vets, they sit on the designated "cat side" of the waiting room in a card board box, popping their heads out from time to time to look around. When Mr. PIP, the rooster goes, he is particularly interested in looking around at his surroundings.

The two chickens running after "Mr. Pip", the rooster, idolize him--they are his daughters. The older hens, not so much--they are tired of getting "mounted." After the deed is done which lasts a few seconds, the hens momentarily shake, as if to get the cooties off.

Mr. Pip is a good rooster--his job is to keep the girls together, keep them safe and to watch for predators--mainly hawks. A good rooster will fight off a hawk.

He also finds special treats for them. He does a little dance when a treat is found, and the hens will rush over. The treat is usually a bug of some sort. Or one of the blueberries that my brother and his wife put out. Blueberries are a very special treat.
