A roaming dog just killed my cat, Dubya. Dubs was asleep on my back porch.

He never had a chance. The dog just bit him through the throat and killed him instantly.

Dubya showed up at my house over 10 years ago as a starving homeless beggar. He was eating styrofoam meat trays I had put into a dog food bag on my back porch. I called Animal Services who came and chased him around with a net. Finally, I told them to go and I'd take care of him. He stayed and became my own 'grumpy cat'. I rarely was able to touch him. His home became an extra large dog kennel sitting on my porch. I spent $6000 to enclose it and put out a heat lamp during winter to keep him warm. He ate 3 meals a day and never went 50 feet from that porch. I could hardly get him to take to the vet and probably only got to pet him a couple of dozen times over the years. But I loved him and will miss him.

What a shame somebody let their dog run free.

and how they occupy a spot in our lives. Sorry for your loss. I bet Dubya put up a good fight. Perhaps Animal Services need to be aware of a roaming dog, if he attacked a cat near a home, he's capable of attacking a child.

Even if dogs escape, Folks should socialize their their dogs to cats.

So sorry for Dubs and for you. You've been an exceptional kitty parent.

Our new puppy has accepted our pet squirrels, so I'm almost positive she won't harm a kitty. My son will bring his 2 kitties to visit just to make sure our new puppy won't develop any prey or aggressive instincts toward kitties.

I am so sorry.

Will you be able to recognize the dog again?

Do you have Animal Control laws you can appeal to?

We FINALLY got Animal Control laws in our little town, had to badger the hell out of the City Council, and had to call the police after every incident with loose dogs, but it paid off.

I dislike it when people allow their pets to roam free. Dogs or cats. Many times nothing good will come of it.

Do you have any idea who the dog belongs to? Or do you think that any of the neighbors might know who the dog belongs to? I would be concerned about whether or not the dog would also be capable of attacking a small child.

I have some sick cats now that I can't afford to treat, and it's tearing me up, but to lose an animal like that, through violence, and unexpectedly, is just so hard to deal with.

I hope the roaming dog is gone or will be dealt with (not euthanized...I mean returned to his owner or rehomed).

Was that your only cat? Maybe you could adopt another one who needs a home, and let it be an inside cat.

It's illegal in so many places for any pets of any kind to be turned out to fend for itself in the great outside.

That dog should NEVER been allowed to run.

Owners don't realize their own pets are at enormous risk to be killed, even if they don't give a #### for the well-being of the other creatures in their world.

It doesn't feel possible to get over this pain and rage, but you will, to some extent. It will always be with you in some form.

Take care of yourself. Best wishes. So sorry for your fur friend, Dubya. He really didn't have that coming. It makes us so sad, too.
