District Attorney’s Handling of Cat Shooting Case Probed by Animal Legal Defense Fund

AUSTIN — Today, the Animal Legal Defense Fund invited Austin County District Attorney Travis J. Koehn under the Texas Public Information Act (Tex. Gov. Code § 552.001 et seq.) to produce all records relating to the criminal case against Kristen Lindsey, a veterinarian who killed a cat with a bow and arrow. Ms. Lindsey outraged animal lovers in April after posting a photo of herself on Facebook holding an orange cat with an arrow through its head, stating “My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s [sic] head! Vet of the year award… gladly accepted.”

Earlier this week, a Texas grand jury found there was “insufficient proof” to charge Ms. Lindsey with animal cruelty and thus the District Attorney closed the case.

Absolutely. That dismissal was an outrage. catbyte Jul 2015 #2
I sincerely hope the DA cooperates, but doubt he will. hamsterjill Jul 2015 #3
I'm glad they're keeping the pressure on the DA. City Lights Jul 2015 #4

That is hard to believe, since there is a smiling photo of her, posted by her, actually stating that she shot it.

Just think about it. If you killed someone, and posted it on FB with a comment that it was your "first kill", do you think that anyone would say that they had insufficient proof that you killed that person? Same thing in my eyes.

That said, every animal lover that I know in Texas has already made a note of Ms. Lindsey's name (we refuse to address her as "Dr.&quot and not one of us will EVER do business with a clinic or other business that employs Ms. Lindsey, nor will we spend money at any business that Ms. Lindsey might own or benefit from.

In my opinion, she should be in jail for what she did. It is unfortunate that the DA did not present an adequate case to the grand jury, but it was already pretty much known before the court date that the DA wasn't going to put much effort into an animal cruelty case.

Therefore, I'm happy that the Animal Legal Defense Fund is continuing to draw attention to the case.

owners too, probably got a settlement through her Lawyer and agreed to not ask for a charge or interview.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund work is needed in Texas. This state is way behind the curve.
