My puppy loves to eat poop - either another dog's or the cat's, he isn't picky. Of course I'm grossed out. It turns out there's something I can do about it.
I can buy something called "forbid" that's supposed to cure it by making the poop taste awful. Really? It doesn't already? The other product is cheaper - unseasoned meat tenderizer.
Has anyone else had luck with either of these solutions? The puppy is so cute and he loves to give me puppy kisses - but I know where that mouth has been and eeewwwwww!

(3,344 posts)Our dog loves to eat his own, sun-dried poo. We have to pick his poo up everyday and watch him when we put him out to do his business, just in case he finds some old stuff we missed.
Curious to read what others have to say!
I'm glad I keep cats. We had a dog once who liked to browse in the cat's litter box, but yelling at her made her give it up.

(8,646 posts)My SIL was telling me the other day how their chocolate lab loves the wildlife poop in their backyard - specifically bunny pellets. A long time ago I had a black lab puppy that LOVED poop. I used to brush her teeth every time she came inside, because I didn't want her kissing me after eating poop.
LOL - "It doesn't already?" I know, right?

(2,751 posts)meanwhile, my cute little puppy has taught another of my dogs how delicious poop is. This morning, before I could do poop patrol, they were feasting on someone's fresh pile.
And yeah, then they want to kiss me. Blech!

(13,468 posts)So I can't do anything about making their poop taste "bad".
But I saw a product for this in Pet Smart whose name made me laugh hysterically, "Stool NO!"

(2,751 posts)I got some of the Adolph's unseasoned meat tenderizer and sprinkled it on their food. I also read up a bit about it online and people's comments about the sugar and salt concerned me. Other people said pineapple - but that has sugar too. Other posters talked about a supplement at GNC that contains the enzymes in pineapple that supposedly make poop unpalatable to dogs.
All too confusing. I went to Petsmart and talked to the trainer. He showed me their product - one of the ingredients is cayenne pepper. He said that is the best deterrent because it registers in their brains. I'm going to try this and will let you all know if it works.

(3,431 posts)My st. poodle started to eat her and especially her boyfriend's poop. I got a can with pineapple pieces and gave them each 2-3. Slowly I went down to one small piece in their food and then none. It seems to have worked. I cannot speak about poop from other animals though, in spite of all the squirrels and birds around here.
