Related: About this forumPooping problem in Jack Russell mix
Last week, Scout had really bad diarrhea. Took her to the vet, got fluids under the skin twice....and was put on metronidazole. The whole time, she acted like she felt fine. Good appetite, playing, not painful anywhere... Now, her poop is normal, no blood...plays with her stuffed animals, barks in obnoxious outside voice to lick the plates...
However, she seems to have no idea when she needs to poop. None. Is dropping poop balls in the house, pooping in her sleep, etc.
No blood in the poop, 2 more days left on the medicine, there are NO other symptoms. We are going back to the vet tomorrow....we don't feel like this warrants a trip to the emergency vet-
She is 10 years old, and eats Solid Gold Hund n Flocken, which she has been on for 8 years. She is strictly indoors, leash walked only....and is never alone in the house for more than a few hours (4 at most) any day. She is a terrier, so no dog park trips....she is only around her cat friend, and when we are gone she is crated.
Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that the dog is having health problems, I hope she gets better soon.

(1,995 posts)a sign of aging or some problem with her spine that could make her not be aware or feel that she is going?
I'd definitely call the vet and see what they
day about it.

(24,898 posts)She is hopping up and down on the furniture, and playing rough with her stuffed animals and ball...also, held her poop, and then went outside and had a completely normal one. Will monitor her tomorrow, and call the doc if there's a problem.
Thanks for reading and answering....she is 9...and had to have surgery on her eyes that left her almost half blind a few years ago. The Dr. calls her "the baby substitute.
so glad she's better! I know you must
be too

(6,151 posts)My MM and Brigid are both strict with themselves about using the yard only, but I've found they have better formed stools if I put about 1/8 tsp of peanut butter in their breakfast only. They eat 3 times a day since they're so small. When they get old, I may have to switch to what I did for the chows in their later years; a few drops of vegetable oil and about 1/4 teaspoon of bran in their breakfast because they stopped up too easily at their advanced age. It helps that I'm retired and can be home almost always to monitor my dogs closely. That's not whining. I worked and traveled like a house afire in my own youth, and now that I'm long retired, I love quieter things because I got the wild mostly out of my system beforehand. Every day is happily busy and wonderfully quiet. Well, the dogs make a certain amount of noise, but that's about it.
