Different types of preparation methods bring out different tastes for me.

after microwaving milk-- maybe once or twice weekly in the wintertime. Otherwise, pour-over.

I highly recommend the latter, especially for those of us living at altitude, because you can get the water hotter than with most automated drip coffee makers.

9. i make extracts.

i do use my mr coffee, but i also make extracts for cold coffee.
cover grounds in vodka, or jameson for irish coffee. let sit overnight.
very efficient.

when i use mr coffee, i use bustelo, and just add grounds until the basket is full.
sometimes i make a rly strong pot, and then make a second runnings pot.
like beer makers do. they make a big beer, then wash the grain again to make a small beer.

i am hooked on making extracts. i got hooked when someone left a half quart of tito's on my farm.
i had been making lemon balm and spearmint sun teas.
but a handful of bruised leaves, covered in vodka and you have tea in an hour instead of a day. leave it in the sun and the alcohol burns off.
most fun is making it from every gardeners most hated weed- creeping charlie. the teas is very mild, and just perfect for a hot day in the garden. i gave it to a couple expert gardeners w/o telling them what it is. made them guess. it was in a clear jug, they looked right at the leaves and still couldnt guess. they knew it was a mint, but that is as far as they got. hilarious.

i had a lot of green peaches that i had to pick as the tree was so burdened. i left them to ripen in the sun. i made a spearmint tea w watermelon vodka, and i sliced some of those soft green peaches into it. omg.

you can make an extract of most anything. i have a lot of old whole spices that i only use for xmas cookies. i just filled those bottles w bourbon other day.
the nutmeg fell off the shelf on me, and the nuts were very soft by then. so i was able to slice them into small pieces for a better extract.

Cuisinart grinds the beans, blows them into the filter, then drips into the pot. I do a 2-1 mix of Columbian and Hazelnut.
The grinder first thing in the morning takes care of what the alarm clock couldn't finish!

Wife and I have completely different tastes for coffee, and we tend to only drink one cup a day each, two at most.

I love a good cup but keurig coffee is fine by me, way better than drip (with regular canned ground coffee) IMO. I like trying different brands (“coffee” coffee, not flavored!), my current favorite is Paul Newman Organics “medium bold.”

15. Tea. Coffee is too complicated in the morning

When my husband - the coffee maker in the house - was off on a month-long business trip I discovered that I can not make coffee first thing in the morning without a cup of coffee first. Tea is a lot easier.

In Canada about 20 years ago I saw coffee bags, like tea bags. Did they ever really catch on there? And why hasn't the US adopted something like them (probably because the coffee they produced was godawful)?
