I am on my own and having smokey marinated grilled (on the stove) chicken, pasta salad, blue cheese dip and Triscuits, cucumber kimchi, and s.f. raspberry jello. No matter what day it is, picnic food is always a treat

(9,257 posts)He loves shrimp, so its garlic-herb marinated shrimp tonight with corn on the cob and coleslaw. Finally found yeast at the store so Im making sticky buns for breakfast (if they last that long).
Do you think think you'll make some starter, just to have some leavening on hand?

(9,257 posts)Thought Id try some things now that Im retired, and I got a stand mixer with paddle attachment for Christmas. Then you couldnt get yeast in the store for months.

(16,908 posts)You might think about it. There are some excellent posts in this forum about starting a starter. I've done it different times. If you don't like a strong sourdough flavor, you can use less and let it sit longer to rise. I've made bread, pancakes and rolls over the years. You have to feed your starter, so make sure you have supplies to commit to it, if you decide to try.
OTOH, stock up on yeast. My daughter got me a 16 oz package that I kept in my freezer. I didn't bake often, and it lasted almost 9 years and still worked great. Right before the virus, I got a jar of bread machine yeast. I don't think the yeast knows I am not using a bread machine, because it works great! lol
