What's for Dinner, Sat., April 27, 2019

Steaks (Angus beef club steaks) are marinating in rosemary and garlic.

The RG made a vegetable dish to go with it: zucchini, mortadella sliced thin, and cherry tomatoes. Garlic, too.

Cucumbers, sliced, with red onion, salt & pepper, and vinegar.

Dessert will be a cup of this new tea I bought--caramel apple pie tea. The flavor is quite pronounced and it really does taste like caramel apple pie.

My son is visiting with us and he wanted meat and potatoes.

Accordingly, NY strips marinated in olive oil, thyme and garlic then broiled.

Mixed salad comprised of red-leaf lettuce, red onion, thin slices of an orange-colored pepper, thin slices of celery and small wedges of tomato. Raspberry vinaigrette and raisins to top it off.

The landlady(!) has perfected a new way for us to have French fries since I'm supposed to stay away from fried foods. Slice the potatoes shoelace thin then soak them in cold water to leach out the starch. After a half hour or so, roll the potatoes slices in a clean, dry hand towel. Coat them with olive oil when you're ready to bake them in a pre-heated oven at 350º. An obvious hint is to line the baking sheet with aluminum foil. Lightly salt and turn several times during the one hour they need to bake to turn golden brown. Tonight, she's using to potatoes: an Idaho and a sweet potato.

Dessert is my son's favorite: Klondike bars! I'll have a bosc pear.
