I have a hearty beef stew going in the crock-pot.

Just wondering if any of you have any interesting beef stew recipes.

I don't measure anything, just throw in some lean chuck steak (I don't like fat on my meat), potatoes, onion, celery, carrot, mushrooms, fresh parsley, salt, pepper, a little dried oregano, beef broth, crushed tomatoes and some green peas toward the end of cooking.

I usually like to use some Guinness Stout or other dark beer, or even red wine, but I didn't have any and it's too cold to go out so I did without this time.

used to make it while holding my first born on my Mondays off! Used red wine instead of Stout, and canned toms, peas, carrots, quartered pots, jar of pearl onions, browned 'stew meat' after dredging in flour with salt, pepper, garlic powder and dried THYME! It's on my to-do list for SOON. Thanks for the reminder, do have to pick up the wine!

I like the idea of pearl onions and usually I start the meat in a dutch oven w/ some flour and butter but I didn't want the extra cleanup. Red wine really adds a lot to the flavor as well!

Neighbor had a Billy goat that was screwing everything on his little farm. The steaks were way to chewy to eat so he made burger out of it and gave me half. Talk about lean and taste.

6. Does goat taste like lamb or more like beef?

I have never had it. I have however tried moose (meatballs) when I was up in Maine for the holidays at a cocktail party. It was pretty good! Not too different from beef.

This one was very lean, with lots of a mild flavor. If you can find a young female goat, the steaks and stew meat is very tender and tasty. He should of had it fixed, Billy goats are not the best. If you get any hair mixed in with the meat, it will taste terrible.

Liptons Beefy Onion soup mix.
I use the Liptons for flavoring when I make a roast or meatloaf. It's great!

to add smoky paprika to the flour that is used to dredge the meat. It adds a wonderful, complex taste!

12. That sounds good! I just made a chicken stroganoff w/ Hungarian paprika last week

that was excellent. The paprika can really make a dish, especially if it is a high-grade Hungarian paprika.
