(39,961 posts)since it's Father's Day, but he wanted roast, so I cooked one last night. He declared it the best roast he's ever eaten in his life, and doesn't even want to eat steaks today. He wants to eat more of the roast, and who am I to deny him?
Bravo for Aerows!

(39,961 posts)I was impressed with how well my roast turned out, but my father LOVED it

(39,961 posts)some (2) cloves of garlic, and diced up the biggest sweet onion you've ever seen . He loved it
I really tried to get him interested in steaks, but no, he wanted more roast.

(146,218 posts)sliced onion.
Medium rare, just like he likes it, and with a sour cream horseradish sauce, which I love.
It's such a great comfort food and leftovers are fantastic.

(39,961 posts)But my father has much more pedestrian tastes, thus the Dale's, garlic and onion. Anything else and it's too "seasoned". No Worcestershire Sauce.
Um, Sour cream horseradish and rare? May I come over for dinner sometime LOL?
Dear Goddess that sounds wonderful.

(146,218 posts)but I try to sneak in new things all the time.
You are welcome to dinner anytime, Aerows. I would also love to eat at your house!

(146,218 posts)I think those rotisserie chickens at the supermarket are brilliant and I don't have rotisserie capacity.
Hope you find lots of goodies at the market. Everything is coming up in this part of the country.

(24,146 posts)it's what dad wants, so that's what dad gets. i do love the ones from the store, too. my husband and i can demolish a smaller one in one sitting
i picked up cherries for the crisp, but there wasn't much in the way of produce there today, so the corn and broccoli will come from the store. i expect the produce to start ramping up, though. we'll see what next weekend brings.

(146,218 posts)I would love that. I roast chicken, but the skin just doesn't come out the same.
Fresh cherries! Yum.
Corn is starting to come in around here and has been really good.
Have a great time!

Going to a birthday party tonight and my friend, a great cook, is making shish kebab, pasta salad and I'm not sure what else. I am going to help his put the kebabs together this afternoon.
Hope you are well, Lucinda.

Yellerpup stops in on occasion. She is having problems with a recurrence of rheumatoid arthritis in her hands.

But I am ready to get back to my routine and start cooking again.
So sorry to hear yellerpup. I have seen her make a brief appearance and hope she is doing ok.

(39,961 posts)using the Ina Garten recipe:

Do it to a T and don't substitute table salt for the Kosher salt unless you cut it in half. Then it is just as phenomenal.

(272 posts)We went to the farmers market and loaded up. We had a delicious dim sum for appetizer. My sister made a big platter with various greens, vegetables, hard boiled eggs, cooked fingerling potatoes, olives and sliced tomatoes with basil and feta, and lemon vinaigrette, Balsamic vinegar and green goddess dressing to pass around. And we had corn on the cob, marinated grilled swordfish kabobs, potato-rosemary bread and some very tasty strawberries for dessert. This was outside at my sister's house on the big weathered wooden farmhouse/feasting table that her husband made. Oh, and the weather was gorgeous, so we had a wonderful time.

(35,804 posts)I like the cold platter combination and the potato-rosemary bread sounds like a winner, too. I'll bet your dad really enjoyed it.
A friend makes those big tables like what you're talking about. He makes his from old barn wood. I cannot believe how beautiful they are. I would love to have one.
We had a friend over, and my husband made dinner. He made burgers with sliced rutabaga over them. Doesn't that sound a little weird? It was delicious! And of course, tomato, lettuce, scallions, and gorgonzola.
Celeriac with apple. Grated. Mayonnaise sauce.
Sliced golden beets.
A couple bottles of white and one red.
For dessert, Talienti (sp?) pistachio ice cream which we put on French butter cookies. Wow, was that ever fantastic for a dessert.
