Why people can't buy a whole cantaloupe and cut it up themselves puzzles me.

And these pre-cut things are often sold in smaller quantities than a whole fruit. If you're living by yourself or with just one other person you might not be able to finish a whole canteloupe before it goes bad (or you get sick of it).

are in any way disabled. Although if you live alone, purchasing an entire cantaloupe can be problematical. I live alone, and I do understand that problem.

It happens, we're all on a spectrum as far as cognitive ability.

I got a whole cantaloupe that turned out to be quite far from ripe. I kept checking with little slices every other day or so.Then suddenly it turned massively rotten in 2 days.

When cantaloupe is cut up, even just in half in the store, I can judge the ripeness, overcoming my ring-a-ding-dong handicap. Similarly watermelon.

That said, I also realize that all pre-cut fruit is more likely to harbor some nasty bacteria compared to the whole fruit counterpart.
