4. French fries cooked on skillet over my new hot plate with Hormel chili topping

Trying to stay out of the can of pineapple chunks with syrup beckoning me from the pantry (I had a syrupy can of sliced peaches yesterday at this time).

The Instant Mock Pot has been demoted to unplugged status and has been moved to a less accessible place.

sugary can of pineapple chunks (20 oz). EDITED TO ADD: the can says "no added sugars", but I bet its full of sucralose or some other chemical sweeteners.

Consumer Cellular told us back in August that my SIM card is obsolete so I ordered the new SIM card (free). The instructions were lousy and I had a long phone conversation with customer support with no luck. I broke the little tool that one pushes into some hole to eject the SIM tray, and they wouldn't send me another, but said a paperclip will do.

I eventually ran across some how-to videos. But when I tried, nothing happened, the tray wouldn't budge. Another long conversation with customer support.

Customer support said I had to get it done before the end of the year or it would stop working.

Then I googled what to do if the SIM tray won't come out, and basically the solution is to apply as much force pushing in the tool (or paperclip) into the hole as possible. It worked! (The phone is 4 years old this October, and the videos say that in older phones the trays tend to be hard to get out).
 
The instructions were lousy on what to do next, but eventually I figured it out.

So at last a great reason to celebrate. With a dab of cottage cheese on the side.

8. I had some more french fries using a different heat setting to see if that

would work better. The thing has heat settings 1 thru 7 and Max. Last time I tried "6" and it was so slow-pokey.

So this time I tried "7" and it was quite a bit faster but not too fast. Just about right.

I hope this thing is consistent from one day to the next on how hot it gets.

7. went straight to lunch

Cuz of school garden meetings.

Half a tuna sandwich with melted cheddar and srirachi on top. A few sweet potato fries and some cherry kombucha.

9. We dug up our sweet potatoes today.

We maybe got around 30 pounds of them. The drought really didn't help because we normally get around twice that amount. They taste so much better than store bought sweet potatoes. Garden is all cleaned off except for a few grape tomatoes and a few pepper plants. Got my Amish (Brethren) neighbor bringing me a big load of manure here in the next week. Along with some lime and that should make the garden soil come back to life.

10. we're dismantling gardens, too

We've put in scallions and garlic. We have fairly mild winters. In addition, we will put straw around the onions to keep the weeds down.

Fortunately sweet potatoes last a long time. I haven't grown them in a while--I think I'll change that next year and give them another try because of what you said about them tasting so much better than store-bought. I would like to learn to make a sweet potato fry that's good, but so far I haven't found a recipe or technique that's as good as store-bought. They are essential as a low-carb substitute to the potato fry.

Did you do a soil test? Is that why you decided to add lime?

down the road said I should put lime on my garden if I think the soil is depleted. I put some on last fall and tilled it into the soil. I did see a difference in how healthy my plants looked this spring, but then the draught came. I do have a soil ph meter around here somewhere, I haven't seen it in ages though. I'm suppose to get sheep manure from my Brethren neighbor, he said it will really help the garden.
