...on Netflix? We were able to watch the first four episodes, but it stopped there. The latest episode we have available to watch is week 4, Mexican Week. Nothing new after that. Am I doing something wrong ?

(11,635 posts)I liked that the round shape was used to make a sandwich s'mores with homemade marshmallow and and the chocolate ganache is a good alternative to a melted Hershey bar. The whole thing seemed elevated and less campfire-messy.
My family wants to make these now.
I bet they will disappear quickly.

(22,767 posts)s'mores flavored/concocted products in the grocery year round, and have been for quite some time. I personally don't like s'mores, but apparently enough people do that they're constantly available in many forms.

(22,767 posts)I watched the clip people were passing around as cringey. I just didn't see it. Some words were pronounced differently, but there so are many things that are pronounced differently between Americans and Brits, going both ways. It's not wrong, just different.
ETA: I don't subscribe to any streaming service and I've never been drawn into any of the bake off shows, so I'm not just defending the program. It's just a matter of linguistics.

(14,176 posts)Season 3 IIRC. And it was just terrible. The only thing that looked like an actual American pie was a pumpkin pie, which both Mary Berry and Paul thought was revolting. Another contestant made a pie that was basically a peanut butter cup. American pies, Paul opined, have to be rescued by being Britishized because otherwise they're just too sweet--and that seemed strange to me because I recall having much sweeter, diabetes-inducing pies in the UK.

(14,176 posts)There were so many things wrong with it that the show received at least a portion of the blowback it deserved. It was the first time I've reacted negatively to the show. But there have been episodes since then (another one of which was also not great, but not as objectionable as "Mexican" week).

(11,120 posts)I'll admit that it sounded tasty, kinda, but it was NOT a taco.
tishaLA
(14,176 posts)Virtually every good taco place that's predominantly frequented by regular Mexican and Mexican American people in Los Angeles makes their tacos very simply: tortillas, carne asada (not beef filets) or lengua or carnitas, etc., cilantro, (diced white) onion, and either red or green (liquid) salsa, then the customer can add a squeeze of lime or radishes, although obviously Mexico has regional differences. No avocado. No pico de gallo. None of the other adornments. I'm sure that Paul had tacos exactly the way he presented them when he was in Mexico, but he was probably in tourist areas that make food catering to tourist audiences.
Paul also had pan dulce wrong as far as I could tell, but I felt even worse for the poor, deliciously humble tres leches that the show insisted on turning into a layer cake and bastardizing in any number of ways.

(5,693 posts)I shlepped an extra suitcase filled with corn tortillas, corn chips, proper Mexican hot sauce, and American candy. Now she just eats spicy curries until she can come home for a visit.

(15,092 posts)After reading about it, I was expecting the worst, but most everything looked good to eat. Pretty much what youd expect from British people attempting Mexican foodnot very authentic, but not necessary bad.
