I prefer the near coastal Maine flavor but that's not available these days.

Also the pancakes have to remain in their form as pancakes after the syrup gets on them.

Anything that disintegrates upon contact with syrup is fool's cakes I tell ya. You have to be able to pour on the syrup, cut a piece with your fork, stab it with your fork, fold it and stab it again, then put it in your mouth without falling into a soggy pile of mush. Anything else is unacceptable.

Is bacon, egg(s) and a good pancake. There's a cafe in town that makes the best pancakes I don't make myself so I don't mind going there for breakfast and it's like eight bucks. I cake is too big but I manage to eat the bacon and egg part before really going after the pancake. And a cup of coffee. Eggs without coffee is sacrilege.

Three New England states and I don't like anything other than maple syrup and butter. Kind of like lobster, I can't imagine there's anything that you serve them with other than a romaine salad, some nice sourdough, a white wine, a lemon and half a cup of melted butter. I mean, is there anything else?

As a kid from coastal Maine in the 1950s/60s, I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to find upon my first trip to Maryland that they eat crabs with the shell on! And they poured VINGEGAR on them AND their fries! What?!? It just made no sense.

I don't get why people put salt on watermelon or strawberries either but...

I still have relatives there and visited them for decades. The crabs with the shell on that you speak of is a Blue Crab that has just shed their shell. When the shell hardens, it is not edible.

I thought vinegar on french fries was weird, too, but there is a place on the boardwalk in Ocean City called Thrasher's, and back then, at least, they served nothing but french fries. The best I have ever had. For whatever reason, vinegar and salt is the best thing to put on those fries.

Investigate this soft-shell crab thing because I loved eating crab, shelling can be a pain but the idea of the shell staying soft long enough to eat it just didn't compute. And I had not heard of malt vinegar until then.

I was being a bit sarcastic about it but I was really surprised when I learned about them.

I have never tried one. I watched my ex eat one and the legs were a bit much for me. I have dissected enough crabs to know I only wanted to eat certain parts and the legs w/shell in bread wasn't gonna cut it.

Some buddies and myself used to go crabbing for dungeness crab off the Santa Cruz pier many years ago. One of them had a camper and we would stay up all night drinking beer and catching, cooking and eating crabs. One guy brought a friend from work once who was Filipino and that guy ate everything inside of the crab but the shell.

When you run out of white meat, stop.

I know people in other parts of the world eat the whole thing but I suspect one or more of my organs would rebel if I actually got past the gag factor!

There are numerous things to put on those from fruit and whopped cream to savory things like salmon or chicken salad-like fillings with some nice gravy-like sauce.

and fresh fruit if I have some. If I go for syrup it has to be real maple syrup.

My mother, who was generally not a good cook, make great pancakes. My grandmother, who was generally a very good cook, made lousy pancakes. And she put Karo syrup on them. Blecch!

But back in the day when there wasn't much money, all we ever had when I was growing up was grape jelly. I sometimes think I did it then just to be different, but I also sometimes think of doing it again. So many tastes I've enjoyed through life have been so strongly carried over from my childhood.

and I live near enough to Vermont so that getting it is easy enough. However, the price is a problem for me.

Also, my guy is a diabetic, and on comparison, the fruit preserves have about 1/3 the amount of sugar than maple syrup.

like I told the woman at the country store when she asked me what I was going to use it for. I said sorry but I could go to jail if I told you what I use it for. Never ever thought about spreading some on a pancake.

I mix around 1/2 teaspoon to a gallon of water and water my plants once or twice during the plants life cycle with this mixture.

Blackstrap molasses is high in calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium. It also contains sulfur and a host of micronutrients. Using molasses as fertilizer provides plants with a quick source of energy and encourages the growth of beneficial microorganisms.
