States that have ADAP waiting lists

http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparetable.jsp?ind=552&cat=11

There are thousands of people still waiting for drug treatment for HIV. This is insane!
Alabama,Florida,Georgia,Idaho,Louisiana,Montana,Nebraska,North Carolina,Ohio,South Carolina,Utah,and Virginia.

If you want to do something, start with the state legislators in these states...

you have less viral loads and are less likely to infect others.

so, this is going to have a terrible effect in hiv prevention too

To maket Truvada as a possible drug to help prevent HIV infection. Yruvada is now used in a cocktail in HIV positive people.

I'll see if I can find the link to the story.

EDIT: Heres a link to the story.

8. Good info. And, effective anti-viral treatments are shown to reduce transmission

among those already infected. At this point in anti-viral treatment it's become a clear "of course" research conclusion. Reduce the pool of HIV in an individual on up through the infected population at-large and you reduce transmission. ADAP, in that sense, can be seen as a component of prevention as well as treatment.

6. CA, Office of AIDS, made the tough, long-term decision a while back to "firewall" ADAP availability

at all reasonable lengths. i.e. In the probable, now actual, event of budget cuts to AIDS programs, ADAP would be the last state funding cut made. It's held up for now, thankfully.

Many programs have been hurt by funding cuts - some severely. Yet I think CA's call was a good one overall.

Agree, state legislatures are the place to do something. They ultimately determine where fed and local dollars go in AIDS prevention, care and treatment.
