Seven Days in May- YouTube

There were 3 films released in 1964 dealing with the conflicts that could lead to nuclear war. Dr. Strangelove," "Fail Safe" and "Seven Days in May." Growing up during that era I saw all 3. At 14 the last one went over my head, too cerebral, too much dialogue, not enough to grab the attention of a 14 year old boy. Well 60 years later I watched "Seven Days in May."
This film is an exquisite editorial on how easy it would be to completely bury the constitution, thus the nation, and so relevant to today.

It is "Seven Days in May"

Near the end is a great scene and monologue by President Lyman the traitorous head of the Joint Chiefs, General Scott.

It should be taught in civics class and more.
It's available on YouTube for free

Failsafe was suspenseful, terrifying, and the ending unsuspected. Dr Strangelove was comically outrageous, given the subject matter. At the time , Seven Days in May seemed implausible, but this was before Trump and Republicans became enthralled with authoritarianism. It might play better today.
