"Foyle's War" -- I'm late to the game but loving it

An older series (streaming on Acorn) about an English police detective solving crimes in 1940's England, against the background of the ongoing war. While yes there are "regular" murders, there are also some crimes connected to wartime tensions, Nazis, antisemitism, and espionage. Fantastic acting (like so many British shows).

If you like British TV, Acorn is well worth subscribing to.

So is Wycliffe, Gently, Vera, Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Dalziel & Pascoe, Prime Suspect.

I have both Acorn and Britbox, and watch them all day long.

The acting and writing are superior, and the actors look normal.

Oh, and McDonald and Dodds, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates.

ETA: Morse and Lewis. Theyre on Britbox.

By the end it got a bit anachronistic. A lot of historical fiction nowadays has an 'adventures of the time traveler' air, with people, sympathetic leads, anyway, displaying modern attitudes quite at odds with the general tenor of the time they are set in.

and Acorn is also a good pick. Agree that the characters and acting are, in general, better - more enjoyable.

(for a different 'flavor' - A Place to Call Home, Brokenwood Mysteries, Mystery Road, Good Karma Hospital)
