Juicing seems to be getting more and more popular these days. Has anybody tried any juicers they can recommend? I bought one a month ago but I'm a bit disappointed that it takes out lots of big chunks and the fiber. I just saw tonight this one on a TV ad that pullverizes everything to a liquid like state and leaves in all the fiber and can even pulverize nuts and seeds to liquid/oil. I dont know if DU allows saying brand names for the OP (spam?) so I'll leave it at that unless somebody says its OK.

(53,661 posts)Some people prefer the pulp. I have done a lot of juicing as well as greens extraction.
I finally simplified and now toss most of it in an Oster blender.
If I don't want it thick, I strain it, but if it's a smoothie and it's breakfast, well, it's a meal, so I chew it.
Good luck.

THe juicer presses juice out and doesn't leave a lot of fiber. (I have to clean the fibrous remains out of the juicer after using.) Lately I use the vitamix more. (Though I have to add water or coconut water to make it more liquid.)
Vitamix is great for soups, too. Tomato and cucumber style gazpacho, though it does liquify it too much!!!!

(2,150 posts)Have had it about a year. I do mostly fruit and vegetable smoothies, and usually include kale or spinach. It is amazing. No pieces, no chunks. Everything is pulverized. Got it at Costco, where they bring them in periodically. Have to say I use it at least once a day. You can check the web for lots of good, healthy drink recipes. My two cents is that you want to keep the fruit and vegetable fiber in your drinks, not strain it out.

(8,808 posts)I actually bought my Vitamix direct from the company refurbished. Just search under Vitamix reconditioned. I bought it 15 yrs ago and it's still working great. If I make carrot juice in my Vitamix, I need to add liquid because it uses the whole carrot while the Breville extracts the juice and leaves the pulp (which I give to my chickens). I like them both but find I use the Vitamix the most.
I make quick healthy soups in the Vitamix in a few minutes. Throw in some veggies and some chicken stock and instant healthy soup. Great for quick healthy breakfast smoothies. The motor is strong and it pulverizes everything really fast.

(13,524 posts)from the Breville (or Omega) for muffins! I've made carrot/spinach muffins using the remaining pulp.

(77 posts)Just got back from visiting bro in Oregon, and had smoothies every day. The green color was somewhat off-putting, but the taste was
pretty good. He uses fresh package of greens, some fruit, protein powder, and coconut milk.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good blender that doesn't break the bank? They can be so expensive, but I suppose a good one is needed to properly pulverize the ingredients. Also any suggestions for smoothie ingredients?
Used a juicer many years ago, but frankly it's a mess to clean up. Just thought about a simpler approach in my old age.

(6,335 posts)I finally bought a Nutra Bullet style blender for $30 or so. I add defrosted frozen strawberries or blueberries with plain yogurt or TJ's honey Greek yogurt, then add a little almond milk in the blender juicer. It takes about 3 minutes including washing it out. And its a great tasting nutritious desert with all the fiber of the berries.

Mix everything, seeds, leftovers from dumpsters, roadkill and blend it all together. Mm-mm-mm.
Seriously though, I really like fruit smoothies made with yogurt and a bit of milk. Quite the healthful treat. Fruits and or veggies by themselves are a bit plain and sometimes too bitter or chewy. I've sent many an old fruit to the trash cuz I kept saying I'd eat it tomorrow.
I've traveled the world for four decades without a juicer.
WOW!
Read my edit. I mustve edited seconds after your reply.

(35,773 posts)Sheesh. The ludicrous nature of juicing was already clear.

(3,615 posts)I used to juice regularly and enjoyed it but it was a PITA to clean the juicer as it left behind a lot of pulp (it was not an expensive one).
I find the Vitamix just a whole lot easier.
Good luck with your search!

(11,833 posts)and have been using it most every day. I got the smallest one from amazon and I'm very happy with it. It's easy to make smoothies and very easy to clean. I just rinse it out when I'm finished.
I've been making delicious smoothies with spinach, apple, pear, coconut, then adding some water or almond milk and a little bit of yogurt. I love it because prior to getting it I just didn't enjoy eating these ingredients on their own. Now I'm getting them every day in something that tastes very good to me. There's lots of recipes out there on the net. Next I'm going to try some smoothies with kale & some other fruits like mango.
Glad to see recommendations for other products here too, as I may have to try them some day.
