I'm scheduled for international travel 10/22 and needed some additional vaccinations.

The last one is scheduled for 10/09. I wanted to get the updated Covid-19 booster before I leave. I decided to risk it and have an appointment for tomorrow. I got an email this morning that the vaccine is Pfizer-BioNtech. I have had 6 prior Covid shots, all were Moderna. Called the pharmacist and he told me only 1 place had the Moderna. First appointment available is 10/05.

Should I take the Pfizer? Get the different vaccines 4 days apart or get the Covid one 10/19? I was told to try to keep 14 days between vaccines and was risking it by getting the booster tomorrow.

Not sure why you think you are at risk by getting Pfizer over Moderna, but mixing vaccine actually hlthe2b Sep 2023 #1

I have had two Modern a shots and four Pfizers. Mixing them was not a problem. tblue37 Sep 2023 #5

confers some immune benefit--at least in the data to date. I have intentionally gotten a few Moderna doses intermixed with my primary Pfizer series. Same very mild short-term arm soreness, but nothing else. YMMV, but there is not any real reason to expect far more significant reactions from one to another.

As for the timing, unless you are boosting MMR or getting Yellow Fever--both of which may be modified live virus vaccines, I am not sure I see major issues.

I could take the initial Covid vaccine. I've had no reaction to the Moderna shots, other than mild arm soreness. Thanks for your reply.

I had all Moderna vax/boosters until the latest one 2 weeks ago. I opted to get pfizer since it was the first available in my area. I had the same reaction as all previous Covid shots. Sore arm, light chills, light headache and just felt icky for 36 hours. I got the flu shot at the same time. Only reaction I have ever had with the flu shot is a sore arm. Chose to wait a bit before RSV vax which is scheduled for tomorrow.

Wishing you a safe and wonderful trip!

Edited to add: Husband, as usual, had no arm soreness and no side effects of any kind with the Pfizer and flu shot per usual.
