“What foods should I eat?”

It’s a question we hear often. Sometimes in desperation.

Not because of the easy choices—spinach, duh!—but because of the not-so-obvious ones that cause confusion.

Foods that have been demonized then celebrated. Or celebrated then demonized. Or that come in so many forms it feels impossible to know the best choice.

Over and over, we’re asked:

Are potatoes good or bad?
What about eggs?
Can I eat pasta?
Is cheese okay?
Do I have to live without bacon? (We told you about the desperation.)

buying glazed donuts, cookies and ice cream and they appear fit to me. I can't eat sugary things due to my tendency to diabetes but that's my choice and so far it works for me. I think everyone should do what works for them when it comes to diet.

Follow the Buddhist middle of the path philosophy - Everything in moderation. When I was in the hospital for heart surgery and was recuperating I was surprised to find what was on my meal tray. Breakfast was usually eggs, bacon or sausage with a fruit cup and milk or coffee. Lunch a sandwich with mayo or some dressing and again a fruit of some sort. Dinner was pasta, meat of some sort or something substantial - even potatoes with cheese.

True the coffee was decaffeinated, the milk skim, the "butter" non-dairy and the eggs were probably a low-cholesterol of some sort. But I was pleasantry surprised by each meal and I thought, "Hell, I can do this at home" - which I am doing.

Eat Food.
Not too much.
Mostly plants.

The not too much is the hardest rule. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, but we have several vegetarian meals every week. Meats are generally small servings. I eat fruit. Good fat, good dairy, small amounts. Rarely anything processed. Red wine, in moderation. No sodas of any kind, but I love sparkling water. Good coffee. I stay away from refined grain and eat whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, wild rice. Potatoes occasionally, but not everyday. Desserts are special occasions.

The biggest thing for me, is to keep it varied and interesting.
