Related: About this forumQuestion about Spirulina........
Does anyone here take this? Had trouble with the tablets but the powder seems to be working okay without the stomach problems. Hard to find people to talk to except on sites selling the stuff and then I don't know whether the respondents are real or just sellers posing as objective respondents. If this post in any way goes against the rules, please delete it and I will continue to look elsewhere. Thank you.

(2,060 posts)bit of it before ordering it. I'm thinking about working towards simply taking it and give up other foods altogether like many Japanese are doing now. Before doing that I thought I should ask more questions from actual people. And DU people generally give honest answers. Thanks for your response.

(32,324 posts)I have known a couple of Spirulina distributors and they seemed to possess a lot of energy and they stay slim.
The fact that that is true of them could of course just be good genetics, or it could be that Spirulina works.
In my case, my bloating and my lack of energy stemmed in part from a sensitivity to gluten. Now that I live gluten free, I feel much better, and I am thinking about using Spirulina.
If you discover a brand that seems better than others, please let me know.
And also, welcome to DU.

(2,060 posts)energy. To eliminate Type 2 diabetes you have to taken 10 mg for 90 days. It is the strangest thing I have ever taken and I am an expert on supplements. NASA is contemplating giving to astronauts on long space flight. WHO is also thinking of using it for world hunger. I take the Hawaiian Spirulina. Have not tried others. It is not organic but it's made in the oceans so there are no GMO's either. The stuff is literally amazing based on all I have read. Read this if you get the chance.

Thanks for replying, truedelphi. Hard to talk to people about this stuff. I am trying to do what that 103 year old Swedish long distance runner does. He eats Spirulina, Green Tea Extract and Brocoli. That's it. Guy looks like he's in his sixties. I think there is a lot we don't know about everything.

"Spirulina -- like any blue-green algae -- can be contaminated with toxic substances called microcystins. It can also absorb heavy metals from the water where it is grown... it is important to buy spirulina from a trusted brand"
I have known people who say nothing but good... I have not taken it long enough at any one time to have relevant personal information, although I have had much experience with people in my life having type 2 diabetes... much relief by eating as close as possible to natural (low glycemic) foods to help avoid excessive insulin secretion (and exercise!)
good luck!

(2,060 posts)am taking 3 grams per day. I have read in a growing number of places that if you take 10 grams a day for 90 days your T2 diabetes will disappear. I already have much more energy. I'll continue to post here if I notice anything else in my adventure. The big problem with the powder for a lot people is that when you mix it up in drinks, orange juice, etc, it looks like a cup of poop. I take mine one teaspoon full of the powder and another teaspoon full of metamucil powder. I'm still detoxing from the Spirulina and the Astxanthin I'm taking (also an algae). Very powerful stuff. Oh, well, thanks again. Good luck to you 2.

(32,324 posts)However, I have heard that metamucil, when taken without any breaks, ends up being an agent of constipation.
So maybe do the m. for two days, then take two days off?
Cherry juice or prune juice taken in moderation should be a decent and healthy substitute for the metamucil on the days you don't take it. (Plus if you suffer from gout, cherry juice is wonderful at purging the gout from your system.)

(2,060 posts)juice? I didn't know that did that; I knew about the prune juice. This place sure has a lot of good info. I'll start on my cherry juice search now.
