LGBTQ weekend event at church faces public anger and protest threats

by Dave Elias 7:09 PM EDT, Thu May 19, 2022

NAPLES, Fla. — An LGBTQ pride event for teens is happening in Naples this weekend and there’s been so much controversy the organizer is now asking Naples Police for extra police protection.

The request comes after the church hosting the event and its organizers have faced threats of protests and anger. Organizers say it’s all due to misinformation about the event.

These days many LGBTQ students don’t feel safe talking about their lifestyle in school so they were excited to hear about the Youth Pride Conference being held in Naples on Saturday but they were not excited to hear that people plan to show up here to protest them.

Organizers say the Naples United Church of Christ is the perfect place to host the event.

If a baker who belongs to a church that promotes homophobic teachings refuses to make a wedding cake for a same sex couple, they are exercising their protected first amendment right to freedom of religion.

BUT

That same first amendment protection does NOT apply to a church that wants to host an event that expresses their belief in the acceptance of all genders and sexual orientations?

Soooo

In other words, the right to freedom of religion only exists for religious groups that promote antiLGBTQ+ beliefs, according to the assclowns who are raising hell about this event.

I can't even express how angry and disgusted this makes me, or how much I hate, loathe, and despise the people who are giving this church so much needless grief over this.

If I didn't live 1400 miles from Naples, FL, I'd show up with a great big rainbow flag to wave in the faces of the protesters, just to piss them off.

Probably multiple someones. I await with dread the day I check the news to see another Pulse... Or someone shooting up a school with a gay teacher... Or someone opening fire on Drag Queen Story Time.

When that happens, I fully expect the UltraMAGA's to not even bother with "tots and pears"... Just scowling at us that "YOU ASKED FOR IT!", or laughter.

I don't blame this church for asking for extra protection. It's sad that it's necessary, but, look where we are between the hatred and mass shootings in 2022.

What a shitshow. What a nightmare.
