Michigan man accused of shooting two men because they were gay

A Detroit man was charged Friday in connection with the shooting of two gay men who were contacted through a dating app, police said. The Wayne County prosecutor's office alleges that Demetris Nelson, 26, targeted 31-year-old Brian Anderson and 26-year-old Malcolm Drake because they were gay.

Prosecutors said Nelson used the dating app Grindr to track down the men before fatally shooting Anderson and critically wounding Drake, the Detroit Police Department wrote in a release.

Nelson was arrested Monday and has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, felony murder and possession of a firearm during felony, among other charges, the release said.

"We are saddened and outraged by this despicable crime. This case is just the most recent example of how members of Detroit's LGBTQ community are too often targets of violence," Fair Michigan Foundation President Alanna Maguire said in a statement.

1. When are people going to grow up?

I wasn't comfortable around LGBTQ people (yes, people--like everybody else) until I got out and met some--in college and at workplaces. You evolve (think Obama after Joe Biden said he was in favor of marriage equality) and I am in full acceptance because people's private lives are none of my business.

I wish I could make wedding cakes in place of those Neanderthals that won't do them--and have the balls to go to court to defend their bigotry and hatred is unbelievable. I thought the Bible said "Turn the other cheek" and "Do unto others..."

Did this moron think that shooting gay people wasn't a crime? I guess it's the same with other minorities: If the attacker thinks the person is a lesser human or non-human, it's like shooting an animal. Using the app was the same as baiting a hook while fishing, which shows premeditation. Send him to Greenland for life with just a loincloth.
