You cant win without gay players, says USAs World Cup hero Megan Rapinoe
Coach Jill Ellis is unconcerned at Rapinoe speaking out
Frances Corrine Diacre will not quit after 2-1 defeat
Suzanne Wrack at Parc des Princes

Megan Rapinoe showed no sign of stemming her outspoken ways after scoring the goals that saw USA march one step closer towards the World Cup final.
Go gays! she said after the 2-1 quarter-final victory over France in Paris and when asked to comment on whether it being Pride month made her contribution more personally significant. You cant win a championship without gays on your team - its never been done before, ever. Thats science, right there!
Im motivated by people who like me, who are fighting for the same things. I take more energy from that than from trying to prove anyone wrong. Thats draining on yourself. But for me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup, is nice.
When the manager, Jill Ellis, was asked about whether she was worried her star forward speaking out would detract from her performance pre-match, she was emphatic: No and, to be frank, I wasnt aware until the press officer told me. Thats the head down approach I have.

(2,343 posts)2. I love Megan Rapinoe!
I was able to see her in person play against my fave team, the Houston Dash and she is a force! She only played the second half of that particular game but offered up several moments of anxiety for me. Luckily, the Dash held on to win, and it was the first time the Dash had ever defeated Reign FC.
If anyone is interested, I recommend watching a compilation of her goal celebrations. You can find them online, and they show a superstar who really loves what she does.
