Gay Pride WORLDWIDE! Edinburgh, Kyiv, and Bucharest
Pride Edinburgh 2019: The full route for this weekend's massive This is Me march
Pride Edinburgh returns to the capital this weekend with the city set to be packed with thousands of marchers donning rainbow colours.
The 2019 event will see scores of people march in the city in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, and to campaign for global equality.
The event, which is called the 2019 Pride Scotia March, will kick off on Saturday morning at the Scottish Parliament.
Marchers will assemble there at around 11.30am before speeches start around half an hour later from atop a special Lothian Buses double decker decked out in Pride colours.
Gay-Pride Parade Kicks Off In Kyiv
Thousands of supporters of LGBT rights are marching in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv under a heavy police presence.
Organizers of the "March of Equality" have said that they expect 10,000 people to participate in the event on June 23.
Several Western diplomats are also attending the event.
Thousands Join Gay-Pride Parade In Romanian Capital
Thousands of people joined a gay-pride parade in Romanias capital, Bucharest, on June 22, months after a referendum seeking to ban same-sex marriage failed.
Conservative Romania is one of the few members of the European Union to ban marriage or civil partnerships for same-sex couples.
Romania decriminalized homosexuality in 2001, but discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community is widespread.
On June 22, nearly 10,000 people braved rain to march the length of Calea Victoriei, a major avenue in central Bucharest, dancing and waving rainbow flags.
Organizers said the march was bigger than the pride parade in 2018.
"We ask for our rights," Patrick Braila, an LGBT activist, told RFE/RL. "Above all, we want to show our joy on the streets."
