South Florida synagogues celebrate LGBTQIA community

Synagogues in South Florida have been celebrating the triumphs and remembering the struggles of the LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual or allied) community this month through different events, including a seder and Shabbat services.

The recent 19th annual Ru'ach Pride Seder at Temple Israel of Greater Miami drew a capacity crowd of 225 people. It was the highest total for this annual seder, presented by Ru'ach, Temple Israel's LGBTQIA havurah.

The seder included a haggadah modeled after a Passover one, candle-lighting, prayers and musical performances. Leslie Cohen and Beth Suskin, a couple who posed for a sculpture at the Stonewall Inn in New York, were special guest speakers at the seder.
