Activist calls for NAACP boycott after local VP refused to support gay candidate
A longtime community activist is calling for a boycott of an annual fundraising dinner for the Flint branch of the NAACP because an officer of the group made anti-gay comments last fall.
Quincy Murphy, an member of the Flint Charter Review Commission, said he’s organizing the boycott after asking that A.C. Dumas resign or be removed from his position as vice president of the civil rights group -- neither of which happened.
Dumas took to Facebook last October to says he would not vote for Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is married to a woman, because “she’s gay" and said he could not support a gay candidate because of his religion.
That same month, Murphy asked for Dumas’ resignation in a letter to the NAACP and asked the group to remove him if he refused to leave.
