A judge unsealed grand jury transcripts earlier this week in a case about the death of a 10-year-old boy whose parents allegedly tortured and killed him after he came out.
Earlier this year, Anthony Avalos died after what investigators described as years of torture at the hands of his mother, Heather Barron, and her boyfriend, Kareem Leiva.
The director of the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) said that Anthony had said he liked boys in the weeks leading up to his death.
The prosecutions case involves both physical evidence and witness testimony. Assistant district attorney Jonathan Hatami told the grand jury about the coroners report, which found injuries all over Anthonys body.
There were injuries to Anthonys side and his hip area, both his left hip and his right hip, and his arms, and even injuries to his feet, Hatami said. There were also abrasions to his knees, circular marks on his stomach and torso, and bruises on his face, and blunt force trauma to Anthonys brain and his body.

(6,137 posts)I just cant wrap my head around how these tortures have been going on for a while unnoticed...Neighbors, school, doctor, etc.? Seems like a systematic failure; the state was not able to protect the child from monsters.
And by the way, to those people who think Kevin Hart did enough to apologize for his joke on violence against gay children - always remember Anthony Avalos. People like hart collecively contributed to this and other incidents normalizing violence against lgbt children. I dont even know whats worse this or a suicide (9 y.o. boy): https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/08/27/denver-elementary-student-suicide/amp/
