A Harrison County, West Virginia school board voted Tuesday night to suspend without pay an assistant principal who allegedly harassed a transgender student in a school restroom.
The suspension lasts through Feb. 1 and Lee Livengood must meet unspecified stipulations before his conditional return, reported the
Charleston Gazette-Mail.
'Never happens again'
The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia issued a statement through a tweet, saying executive director Joseph Cohen and 15-year-old student Michael Crichton were "heartened" by the outcome.
"Michael and his family were heartened with the outcome of the meeting and are now looking forward to working with the school district to make a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ students in Harrison County. Because of Michael's bravery and willingness to come forward, we now have the opportunity to replicate and expand inclusion practices in other counties across West Virginia to ensure this never happens again to anyone under any circumstance.
