The Des Moines Register reports:
Sen. Chuck Grassley said Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture should not have pressured 4-H to rescind a policy welcoming LGBTQ members into the international youth organization. Common sense tells me that that for 100 years 4-H has been operating as a very competent organization and I dont know of any federal interference in the past, he said. So why would you have it in this particular case?
Acknowledging he wasnt aware of the control that USDA has over the 4-H, he said he believes that the group should be relatively free of government control. 4-H is a congressionally authorized youth program that is subsidizedthrough a combination of federal, state and local funds. Private donors work with state-level 4-H Foundation groups to support the programs more than 6 million members.
My first report on this cruelty is here.

(17,862 posts)My daughters liked 4H. My wife did it as well.
Our local 4H is dominated by Homeschoolers. These are great kids, and one was a close friend of my daughter. Many are church affiliated but not all.
If you want to Homeschool, it definitely serves to fill in the gaps you can't cover yourself. They do far more than farm and craft projects. My one daughter did dog agility. The other did robots. They both did several craft activities.
I might give an attaboy to Grassley since I have been kicking him the last two years.
