In recent days, Ive seen a number of social media lists from gay friends calling Sen. Graham Miss Lindsey, and breaking the news to him that try as you may, youll never get to be First Lady.
Now, I find this just as funny as the next person; however, Ive also seen the Miss Lindsey label used by some of my fellow straights, and Im not all-that-comfortable with it. It seems to me that the context is drastically different when a straight person mocks Graham for potentially being gay, just as the n-word has a massively different connotation depending on whether its used between African-Americans or by a white person.
Others, both straight and gay, have told me Im being oversensitive. So, Id be curious to hear the opinion here. Comments welcome.
Is a straight person calling Sen. Graham Miss Lindsey, or making other jokes referring to his putative sexual orientation, offensive?

(979 posts)If straight people are saying it in a derogatory manner as in "Lindsey Graham is gay and that's what makes him bad" is not ok. If they are saying "man I wish Lindsey Graham would just embrace himself so that he could become a better, less self hating person" that is totally different.

FTR, I also find black people using the n-word to be offensive and annoying as hell.
