Two-fifths of straight people think homosexuality is a 'moral detriment'

A new US survey has revealed that 40% of straight millennials think homosexuality is damaging to society’s moral values.

Surprisingly, 20% of LGBT+ millennials surveyed also felt that homosexuality was eroding morality.

The numbers varied significantly between different groups surveyed. 45% of African American respondents said that homosexuality was deteriorating society’s moral values, compared to 42% of Latinx people, 34% of white people and 28% of Asian Americans.

The surprising result is in sharp contrast with the rest of the survey’s results, which show broad support among millennials for LGBT+ rights.

Of the 1,750 millennials surveyed, most were concerned by incidences of hate crimes and bullying against LGBT+ people. The survey found strong support for reducing the incidences of both.

How does one explain findings contradicting other findings within a survey? Is it the way some questions were asked or the perceived "need" by some respondents to present a more tolerant face to surveyors than they actually hold?

Disturbing.....

public. Publicly they are macro - things are right or wrong. Personally its micro and much more nuanced. I think that a large part of the 40% are dealing with LGTB issues internally more personally than with their public stance.

Its like believing that 'minorities should have the same rights as everybody else so long as they don't live next door attitude' that was a big part of sixties liberalism - the old canard, "Blacks are like everybody else, I just don't want my sister marrying one."

About those 2/5ths of straights, the really meaningful stat would be correlation with religion.

And there are also self hating gays who think homosexuality is damaging to society’s moral values.
This is due to religious indoctrination.

Removing centuries of bigotry reinforced by religion is going to be a long hard road.

Baby, I'm so gay that even the thought of the nuts and bolts aspect of hetero relations makes me want to
I'm being a bit childish here for a reason, because if this is the reaction selected hetero's have to even the likes of two men kissing, they need a look in the mirror before such tell me to grow the F up and get my mind out of the gutter.
It appears to be a minority who can't separate those notions. Deplorables, incapable of empathy.
We have come some distance since the days of copious sickening graffiti nearly everywhere utilizing the "F" word. Yet I occasionally hear the likes bandied about in circles of neanderthal men, even in some ranks of mixed company, from "dude, that's so gay" to snorts of derision from guys wearing all black, heavy jeans and dirty black T shirts in hot summer weather... occasionally sporting something the daring equivalent of a mattress cover, and certainly no more colorful or "revealing", just in case someone might think they've ever had a thought of... snort...
