North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's Newest Brief Filed in Federal Court Is as Abhorrent as You'd Expect
North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and his band of merry men submitted a brief in opposition to the United States motion for preliminary injunction against his states discriminatory and anti-trans law, HB2, and its even more disgusting and abhorrent than youd think it would be.
Opening up with a tired statement about safety thats been proven false time and time again, the argument begins, As the Acts text and legislative history make clear, the General Assembly was focusednot on disparaging transgender individualsbut rather on a commonsense concern for preserving everyones privacy and safety. Ironically, while the brief opens up with a promise that the argument isnt against transgender people, the authors spend the next 80-something pages denying the mere existence of trans folks and the United States desire to treat them with respect.

* Intersex isnt a real thing. (p9)
* Pretty much every man everywhere is just dying to dress like a woman and sneak into bathrooms to molest your daughters. (p22)
* Law enforcement officials wont be able to arrest anyone for doing anything wrong because of non-discrimination laws. (p23)
* The NCAA has a standard of acceptance for trans people in sports teams, which justifies NCs discrimination. (p26)
* People who have different types of genitalia are scary. (p28)

It's a political calculation to pander to their base & divert attention from real issues.

(115,677 posts)1. These people, words fail me.
The reality of verbal and physical attacks trans people suffer isnt worth writing a law against because its abuse from citizens, not the State.
There should be no laws about what people can do to each other? Murder isn't worth writing a law against because it's between citizens?
As well as wtf for the rest.

They know exactly what they are doing.
They don't care if they lose in court. It will gin up their base again.

And you'd think every restroom has a couple guys with bad wigs on waiting on your daughters to go in. They're demented. One, every Public restroom has its risks, law or not! They should be watching their family going in or go with them, and for adults, try to go with someone else or take mace. But, being rude about people using the restroom they're comfortable in should never be a problem. Shame on those harassing others for looking too feminine or masculine.
