http://accidentalbear.com/planned-parenthood-now-offering-prep-in-west-hollywood-more-locations-to-come/The Planned Parenthood location that recently opened in West Hollywood Los Angeles is offering HIV-preventative drugs including Truvada. I will keep a close eye on any new stories that arise.
We will be providing these services at our sites over time, said Sue Dunlap, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood L.A. Were going to start with PrEP and PEP here in West Hollywood, because we know its the place where there is the most need.
KPCC reports PP will offer Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) drug Truvada, a once daily pill that reduces the risk of contracting HIV to near zero when used with condoms, as well as a cocktail of anti-retroviral drugs used for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) within three days of being exposed to the virus.

(29,503 posts)going on with regard to HIV research - the history of the pandemic, how things stand today globally, prevention, vaccines, and a possible cure, etc.
Towards the end of the report, there was coverage about PrEP, including Castro footage of young men in t-shirts, "PrEP Whore" or something like that. What does that mean?
I guess in my mind, if the means exists to lower a sexually active person's risk of acquiring a sexually transmitted infection, then what is controversial about deploying that means? ??
I don't live in San Francisco, and haven't been there for over 20 years, but are gay people there stigmatized by other gay men for being sexually active?
If that is so, then I have to say, San Francisco really is passé now. Makes me sad - every country needs place like SF. Or the SF of an earlier time.

(802 posts)But think it may fall into the category of advertising "availability" or, sort of just a rude natured way of saying "get prepared, I am" that I'm seeing on gay dating sites lately.
I lost 5 great friends and my lover to AIDS in the late 80's before better treatments and now, pill form prophylaxis was available. None of them could tolerate the AZT treatments available at the time.
They're gone. But there's still no pill to repair the canyon size hole that ripped in my heart.
