In honor of World AIDS Day: Here's a video about a pharmacist-run PrEP clinic that my Physician Assistant and I helped organize. We provide backup/support to the pharmacists who run the clinic. This is a demonstration project and its success may encourage other pharmacies to adopt this model.

studies have shown that it's damn effective when taken properly; I think a San Francisco study had a 100% prevention rate

The clinic in Montrose here in Houston has programs to help those most at risk of obtaining PrEP prescriptions, and use their income and insurance to adjust the income. They even offer counseling on getting a supplemental Obamacare or Medicare (if eligible) plan that will make it affordable. So, check with the friendly clinics in your area before giving up on trying to get it.
Also, the little know PEP, for those who may, in a moment of weakness received a high risk of exposure incident should be mentioned here.

(3,316 posts)I was at a HIV conference a few weeks ago and getting these drugs and services to a rural population is a concern
IV drug use is probably the primary means of transferring the virus in smaller areas so the use of PrEP is needed everywhere
