A counter campaign has been started to keep the T in LGBT, after the drop the T campaign was met with heavy criticism.
The Change.org petition, which has been signed by a thousand people, calls for T to be removed from LGBT.
It claims to have been created by a group of gay, bisexual and lesbian women who want trans people to be disassociated with the term LGBT.
The petition goes on to note the apparent vilification and harassment of women and gay men/lesbian individuals who openly express disagreement with the trans ideology.
It also notes comments made by feminist author Germaine Greer, who recently said trans women are cant be women, and attacks the trans community and its allies for re-writing gay and lesbian history, after complaints that Roland Emmerichs film Stonewall erased gender non-conforming people of colour from its telling of the Stonewall riots.

(5,402 posts)What a bizarre self destructive tactic for this group of LGB (but not trans?) folks.

(5,402 posts)I figured it's hateful, but we can only respond effectively to hateful behavior if we know what we are talking about.

I could link to the other petition...but I won't. If you check the article out it has a link to that PoS there. You can see how they are using the term there.[/font]

(8,830 posts)Start with understanding (if that is possible) TERFs - it's really part and parcel of the same thing.

The same sort of irrationality exists on the male side, too, with (according to my trans* son) a long and troubled history of inclusion. A recent article with some helpful explanations, here:

(4,167 posts)I get confused as to who decides these things. Is there some central registry where the politically correct list of acronyms is determined? Do we get to vote on it or is this some kind of committee decision?
More and more I like just being Queer. It's vague yet inclusive and easy to remember.

(15,888 posts)After that, if it gets that far, they'll go after the B. TERFs and their allies were doing the same thing at the '93 MOW plannings in the PNW. Nothing like creating a loud voice and then silencing it's parts because of hatred.

(13,324 posts)and unheard, lest the whole family be stigmatized. Someone should tell them that this will never work, because most people who despise transgender folks feel similarly about LGB's - even if they're not as open about it nowadays.
