Coming out at the old age of 57 is an amazing experience!

Married, divorced after 11 years, with a 26 year old daughter. Always thought of myself as hetero though I knew I had other feelings.

Became intimate with my lesbian friend of about 25 years just last week. It just feels too right to both of us. This has been coming on for a long, long time. She has pretty much moved into my house now and will be here full-time soon. Not that big of a deal to us because we have been close for so long.

My biggest supporter is my daughter! She has known and loved this woman all her life. She is very happy for us.

My friends have been awesome in support so far, the few I have told. My arch-right wing-Catholic family will be another matter, but at my age, who cares? Told my sister (Catholic right-winger), who dislikes my partner (total lefty liberal), anyway, and she was angry with me.

Long story short, if you are hesitant about coming out, male or female, gay or bi, just go ahead and do it! Wish I had years ago. If I can, almost anyone can. I am still in the early stages of it but it is an amazing and liberating experience.

My life is changing for the better. Employment life sucks.

I'm feeling very alive for the first time in too long.

And you have been so right on about so many things... lousy Iraq war, women's right, etc.
Your support means a lot.

The crazy thing is this. My partner encouraged me to go to the March for Women's Lives in 2004, when I was pretty apolitical. Went to anti-war demonstrations with her, also.

It has all come full-circle. As far as my family goes, I guess my karma has run over their dogma.

L'm OK. Live and work in Maryland and have several openly homosexual co-workers. It is so wrong that people face discrimination over sexual orientation.

I love later in life love stories. All of them from stories about couples who have been together for decades-stories about people finding love for the first time or again when they are older. It just sounds so romantic that you are with someone you have known a long time.

... sounds like YOU ARE ON A ROLL.

Life is a complicated business. If it were a board game I'd put it back on the shelf and get Trivial Pursuit.

But it is what it is.

It is also great that you have such a supportive daughter and friend/partner.

Keep on being proud of who you are, and I hope you the best of fortunes
