California Activist Responds To 'Kill Gays' Ballot Initiative With 'Intolerant Jackass Act'

Earlier this month we told you about the "Sodomite Suppression Act," the disgusting proposed ballot initiative in California calling for gays to be "put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”

The initiative is the work of attorney Matthew McLaughlin, who paid the $200 fee and submitted his proposal to the attorney general's office. The Los Angeles Times reports that due to California's loose rules for ballot initiatives, officials are virtually powerless to stop the measure from proceeding to the signature-gathering process.

In order to qualify for the ballot, the initiative would need 365,000 signatures in 180 days, which The LA Times calls "a high bar even for well-financed efforts." And even if McLaughlin's initiative were to qualify for the ballot and be approved by voters, courts would almost certainly strike it down as unconstitutional.

From The LA Times:

McLaughlin's proposal calls same-sex intimacy "a monstrous evil" and says it would be better for gay people to die than for Californians to "be killed by God's just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating wickedness in our midst."

It also would make the spreading of "sodomistic propaganda" punishable by a $1-million fine, 10 years in jail or deportation from the state. And it would ban gay people from holding public office.

The Sodomite Suppression Act has sparked debate about whether California should reform its initiative process, and one bill in the Legislature would increase the filing fee from $200 to $8,000.

Do people who hate gays;

1. Question the sexual preference of a surgeon in a medical emergency ?

2. Question the sexual preference of an ambulance driver ?

3. Question the sexual preference of a fire fighter putting out a fire at their home ?

4. Question the sexual preference of a plumber or electrician hired to do work at their home ?

5. Question the sexual preference of their barbers, hair stylist, cashiers, etc. ?

6. Question the sexual preference of our soldiers who put their lives on the line to protect them ?

Homophobia is out of control in this country.

Religious fanaticism is out of control in this country.

Racism is out of control in this country.

This country is sick is so many ways.

Land of the Free and home of the Brave; with Liberty and Justice for All.

The country is filled with cowards that hide behind their twisted sick beliefs.

There is absolutely NOTHING exceptional about this country.

Or at least that's what I read here and there. I'm not versed on legal stuff, but it sounds like class action lawsuit territory to me.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris asked a state court Wednesday for an order allowing her to avoid processing a citizen-proposed anti-gay ballot measure that calls for executing gays with "bullets to the head."

Harris said the so-called "Sodomite Suppression Act" proposed and named by Huntington Beach attorney Matthew McLaughlin "not only threatens public safety, it is patently unconstitutional, utterly reprehensible and has no place in a civil society.''

She filed an action asking the court for declaratory relief' and judicial authorization allowing her to avoid issuing a title and summary for the proposal. An official state title and summary are necessary steps in authorizing a ballot initiative's sponsors to seek the signatures needed to be placed before voters.

Without the court order, Harris said she would be compelled by law to proceed with the measure, which would authorize the killing of gays and lesbians in the state.

I do expect a proposed law or petition from one our more rabid Reich wing states, but surprised anyone would be tone deaf enough to do this in Cal.
