This was an interesting hide, FWIW -

In the thread, "Is a male nurse worth $5,148 more than a female nurse?"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6407875

seabeyond posted:

4. i heard an MRA argue to pay male teachers more to draw them into the field since it was too

saturated with women.

To which I responded:

19. He probably calls himself straight, too. Funny how much 'straight' men love women, huh?

Got an email that this was hidden:

On Tue Mar 24, 2015, 11:39 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

He probably calls himself straight, too. Funny how much 'straight' men love women, huh?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6408459

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Blatant bigotry. He must be gay, right. There is precedence at DU that this form of bigotry is not allowed. I don't like their thoughts so they must be gay. Really bad form and has no place on a progressive message board. We should not be insinuating someone is gay because we do not like their views on a topic. It is not even under the radar in its use here.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Tue Mar 24, 2015, 11:54 AM, and voted 4-3 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think the alerter is reading far too much into the post.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I agree with the alerter.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: alerter has this all wrong, closeupready (who I am pretty sure is gay) is saying it is ironic how some straight men who supposedly like women have no problem with screwing them over for pay. this comment is not insinuating that anybody is gay or that it would be a negative trait if they were.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The alerter is likely correct, but I can't follow what the post is actually saying. If this doesn't get hidden, hopefully the poster can explain themselves.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Homophobic and not really on topic either.

There's a form of paranoia in studies of psychological dysfunction which are thought to be borne of a guilty conscience, and the alerter - in arguing that my post was ACTUALLY an attempt to paint some anonymous person on DU as 'gay' by pointing out the misogyny possessed by men who call themselves 'straight' - seems to have done just that, taking my post WAY beyond.

As an openly gay man who has been so for decades, I'm not coy - if I wanted to claim he was a closeted gay person, I would have done so.

On the one hand, I'm glad people on the board seem to be sensitive to the trope that 'gay = bad'; so I don't know, maybe I should just be quiet.

But on the other hand, I thought it was a thought-provoking hide that got me thinking about how we on DU live almost in parallel universes.

1. I was juror #6, detecting sarcasm in your post but not quite sure where it was pointed

I had no idea you were gay, that would've changed everything

Juror #5 was a few steps ahead of me

which actually was probably done in good faith. It's just an interesting thing to think about, not the end of the world.

4. Weird hide, I agree. Especially considering some of the stuff that's allowed to stand.

I guess the alerter thought you were a straight person making homophobic insinuations? That's all I can think of.
