No one in this group

should be subjected to horrible accusations for standing up for marriage equality. NONE.

Jimmy Carter said something I disagreed with.

That does not make me, or anyone in this group a rabid Republican. Ironically, the only people that participated in that thread, stirring shit are ... Straight..

We shouldn't have to put up with that in this group. I don't like bullies no matter what mask they wear.

I agree that no-one should be insulted for pushing for equal marriage but I must have missed what he said.

On many issues, I admire Jimmy Carter and will continue to admire him. But on this issue, he's flat wrong. Human rights are not subject to the whim of the mob.

I like him, too. He's a human being and has flawed ideas at times.

I'd like to think we here on DU are enlightened enough to say "a Democrat was wrong" when they were wrong.

and right to marginalize, demean and confront maliciously any person that is less than ecstatic about positions Democrats are currently taking.

I'm a Democrat. I refuse to become Republican lite, but that has nothing to do with what went on in that thread.

It was deplorable.

Really disheartening and infuriating, particularly in a safe haven group. Being a Dem does not mean never, ever disagreeing (sometimes strongly) with any stands any other Dem ever took. It's dangerous groupthink. Also, fuck the use of States Rights as an excuse for allowing bigotry. Also, civil rights of minorities should never be up to the whims/votes of the majority. Also, so-called allies would do well to listen and quit lecturing people who have actually experienced the issues in question and try fucking listening.

Thanks for posting this. Getting off my soap box now.

even handed and level headed that I could even dream of being in that thread.

I was shocked by some of the things said in that thread and the audacity with which the DUer was lambasting our minor corner of the internet.

Luckily, the intelligent people in this group said it best so that I didn't just go on blast with profanities and get banned from DU altogether!

Shitty, though that this went on in our own group.

Can't say that if there's a next time I will be able to keep a lid on it, though.

Having said that, I did want to apologize to everyone here at LGBT group for any part I might have played in this really unpleasant and depressing incident. Although this video and its origins have been verified by dozens of sources I carelessly linked to a site I hadn't thoroughly checked out first.

Now let the whining begin and the outcry for being censored and banned from 'rational' discussion, because 'we' all just misunderstood the points that were made. Oh, and that we want a pony, too. Yeah.

I'm still a Carter fan myself, TBH.....but I've never thought of you as a closeted Republican. And that's not right, to go and shit on somebody over a disagreement.

Having been falsely accused of some pretty nasty things myself lately(no, I'd rather not get into them here, as I'd rather not distract from the OP; you may PM me if you'd like to hear more, and I'll do my best to get back to you), I definitely sympathize with you.

part of the religious redneck generation that found it difficult to even utter the term ho.... ho... homo... (whisper) sesual. I can easily overlook this as antiquated fossil rhetoric in light of his Habitat for Humanity organization involvement. I don't see many ex-presidents since do anything quite as genuinely, roll-up-the-sleeves philanthropic that I know of. Correct me if I'm wrong, but GWB taking the ice bucket challenge just doesn't compare in my book.
