Munib R. Masri, one of the richest Palestinians, is trying to prod banks and Arab nations to help avert the Palestinian Authoritys collapse following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus election victory.
Masri, chairman of Palestine Development & Investment Co., said Netanyahus campaign remarks against Palestinian statehood and Israels withholding of hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue were black smoke on the horizon.
If Israel keeps doing what it is doing, it will cause the Palestinian Authority to collapse, he said. We are talking to everyone to see what can be done.
Masri, 80, a confidant of the late Yasser Arafat, says hes contacted Arab leaders and lenders in an effort to manage the financial crunch in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The government of Algeria said Tuesday it transferred $52.8 million to the Palestinian Authority, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

(68,868 posts)The PA dissolves, thus disappears the fig leaf of autonomy as opposed to military rule, de facto annexation, and deprivation of all civil rights and liberties within the occupied territories.
The 'peace process' façade is now in the trash bin where it belongs; so the fake autonomy may as well go too.
And we can now see just how dishonest Israel and its apologists are when they complain about the lack of a partner to negotiate, when Israel with intent and malice actively tries to destroy what's left of Palestinian civil society.
