Related: About this forumWATCH: Hamas, far-right Jews prepare their children for holy war
The Temple Institute, an ultra-nationalist Jewish organization that is obsessed with rebuilding Solomons Temple exactly on the spot where the Dome of the Rock is located today in Jerusalems Old City, released the video below just in time for Tisha bAv (the Ninth of Av according to the Jewish calendar). On this day, Jews traditionally spend the day fasting and mourning the destruction of the ancient temple as well as a long list of other tragedies that are alleged to have befallen the Jewish people on that day. Or they gather to greet Mitt Romney at the Western Wall.
<snip>
The talented brother and sister in this video seem to want to pre-empt the messiah. They startle their father into dropping his copy of the Jerusalem Post when he sees the remarkably accurate model of the temple they managed to create out of sand in the time it took him to read a single article about the civil war in Syria. As the sun sets over the sea, he leads his two children away and the camera pans out to allow the viewer a wide-angle view of the spectacular sand temple.
Not to be outdone, Hamas created a video of its own. In the Hamas version, below, a loving father takes his two children to the beach in Gaza. Like the Jewish children at the beach just a half-hours drive up the coast assuming no checkpoints or walls, of course the children are an adorable brother and sister who frolic fully clothed at the beach, for some reason eschewing bathing suits despite the summer heat.
After he pauses briefly to pray, the Gazan father watches fondly as his children construct a replica of the Dome of the Rock out of sand. The father tears a piece off his newspaper, writes something on the slip of paper, attaches it to a matchstick and plants it on the dome of the mosque. As the sun sets over the Med he leads his children away by the hand and the camera gives us a close up of the flag so that we can see whats written on it: There is no god but God.

"Like the Jewish children at the beach just a half-hours drive up the coast assuming no checkpoints or walls, of course"
If there are ANY checkpoints or walls between any Gaza children and the coast -- Hamas put them there. There are no Jews anywhere in Gaza to interrupt anyone's beach frolics so have fun kids.
I don't mind a little lopsided, biased reporting now and again -- but I will not stand here while people show a total lack of concern for Geography!

(58,724 posts)Checkpoints and walls in Gaza?
One wonders why an Israeli website allows Canadians/Americans to demonstrate how little they know about the region.
Or maybe it speaks to something other than ignorance?
holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)... what did Israel gain from a unilateral withdrawal from Gaza? The Israel haters still pretend the Jews are there.
What incentive does this give them to withdraw from the West Bank?
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Or checkpoints.
The ignorance is somewhat understandable considering the messaging that is being pumped out by the anti-hasbarists.
You'd think 972mag would at least do a quick check of their articles for that sort of thing.

(35,980 posts)Where did you get the idea there wasn't?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_and_Egypt_%E2%80%93_Gaza_Strip_barrier
You do realise one was filmed on an Israeli beach and the other on a beach in Gaza? Hence the half hour distance if there were no checkpoints or walls? Makes perfect sense...
Also, what did you think of the videos? You did watch them, right?
holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)... will bring you a map this year so you will finally learn there is NO beach between Israel and Gaza -- Israel is on the EAST side of Gaza, the sea (the one they want to drive the Jews into) is on the WEST side of Gaza.
To go through a wall or an Israeli Checkpoint to get to a Gaza Beach -- you have to LEAVE Gaza, enter Israel and drive back again.
But, by all means, keep digging... it's very indicative of just how far someone will go go malign Israel for some falsified claim.
Violet_Crumble
(35,980 posts)Reading comprehension. It's a skill you should arm yrself with if you want to run around getting abusive and nasty at DUers. There is a wall between Gaza and Israel. There's two beaches. One in Israel and one in Gaza. There's a wall between those beaches. Not sure what yr not grasping about this. I can talk you through it even slower if you want...
I'm curious. Do you have anything in yr arsenal other than ridiculous insults and abuse?
holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)... by my pointing out that there is no way you have drive through a wall or a checkpoint in Gaza to get to a beach in Gaza then I'm sorry but you're going to have to remain insulted.
Yes, you're right, you have to drive through a checkpoint to get a an Israeli beach from Gaza because it's an international border -- Americans have to go through a checkpoint to get to Mexican beaches, Germans have to go through a checkpoint to get to French beaches (at least since 1944). Are you unclear how international borders work?
Conversely, Israelis would have to go through a checkpoint to get to Gaza beaches -- or would, if Gaza allowed Jews into their country, which they don't.
Read your own map -- all the beaches in Gaza are on the opposite side of Gaza from Israel. It's all pretty clear.

(35,980 posts)..and the need to fling around abuse and insults.
Yr going on about driving to a beach in Gaza from somewhere in Gaza because you didn't understand what was a very easy sentence to understand about the distance between a beach in Israel and a beach in Gaza: 'Like the Jewish children at the beach just a half-hours drive up the coast assuming no checkpoints or walls, of course..'
Yes, you're right, you have to drive through a checkpoint to get a an Israeli beach from Gaza...
Finally it starts to dawn on you. Took long enough!
Read your own map -- all the beaches in Gaza are on the opposite side of Gaza from Israel. It's all pretty clear.
Let's see. Beaches in Gaza are in Gaza. Then there's that wall and checkpoints you falsely claimed didn't exist (someone owes 972mag a sheepish apology!), then there's Israeli beaches, which are, well, in Israel. The Israeli extremists kids were on a beach in Israel, and the Palestinian extremists kids were on a beach in Gaza. Distance between them? Half an hour's drive if there wasn't a wall and checkpoints. C'mon, this isn't rocket science!

(35,980 posts)Here's a clue. Go google something like 'how long does it take to drive from Tel Aviv to Gaza City?'. Print yrself a copy of the map I posted, hold it up real close so you can see it good and trace that route along the coast (that's where beaches are) taking note of the fucking big wall and the checkpoints that you insisted weren't there. Then wander over to 972mag and apologise for being so nasty and getting who was ignorant all wrong...
Have a great day now!

(58,724 posts)There are no Israeli settlements, walls, or checkpoints anywhere inside of Gaza.

(45,850 posts)and we can assume that can't we?
however I do not quite understand the obsessing with a single sentence, unless of course it is meant as a distraction from actual content?

(35,980 posts)Here's what was said: ''Like the Jewish children at the beach just a half-hours drive up the coast assuming no checkpoints or walls, of course.."
I have been informed recently that the words checkpoint and wall are the language of hate. I might have to go find myself some cute kiddies, head down the coast and make my own extremist video!

(30,109 posts)Oh, it's only incitement if the same can be said of Israel.
Otherwise, it can be safely ignored, like this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/11343829#post90
Wouldn't want the narrative busted, after all. Maybe once the Israelis start doing the same, an equivalence can be made and that kind of vile incitement by the Palestinians will also be acknowledged.
Until then, it doesn't exist. It cannot...
======
Reminds me of the IOC refusing to publicly honor Israeli athletes killed in Munich. They'd do so if they could also honor dead Palestinian athletes slain by Israelis at the Olympics. They'll wait until that happens so they can be fair and honor both. Until then...

(206 posts)Lisa (the author) used terms that could be confusing: checkpoints and walls. In most cases Israel is accused by the anti-Israelites of erecting walls on Palestinian territory. Also of establishing checkpoints on Palestinian territory.
Israeli border fences and barriers and guarded crossings are almost always not considered to be the same thing and do not receive such hateful condemnation as "walls" and "checkpoints" on "Palestinian" land. Hence, the understandable confusion. When I read it I took it as a swipe at Israel for having a border checkpoint there that would make it take a lot longer than a half hour to get to an Israeli beach from Gaza. But I think I was just lucky that I picked up on her snark and was expecting such nonsensical gibes. I can see how someone could easily assume she was being serious (why would any Gazan be trying to go to an Israeli beach?) and claiming Israel had checkpoints and walls inside Gaza - and in that case seriously uninformed. In case you haven't noticed being seriously uninformed seems to be pretty common on this topic, even here at DU.
Violet_Crumble
(35,980 posts)All I'm seeing is a serious case of a lack of reading comprehension when it comes to a very simple and unimportant sentence...
So the words 'checkpoint' and 'walls' are now 'hateful condemnation'? What would the language police like people to call them in order not to offend yr sensibilities?
While we're on the subject of dit-dits, why did you put them round the word Palestinian?
In case you haven't noticed being seriously uninformed seems to be pretty common on this topic, even here at DU.
Yes, I've noticed that. Hopefully in time you'll learn the conflict isn't the one-sided 'Israel is blameless' thing that you've been promoting, and you won't be so quick to jump to the defence of a stablemate that's gotten some egg on their face
