The fundamental purpose of technology is to wrench the means of subsistence away from other organisms, and commandeer it for human use alone.
More technology - no matter how "appropriate" - can do nothing but make the planetary problems worse.

(23,867 posts)To me this has always been the central point of environmental damage.
Now we can discuss whether what we're doing is right or not. But that's a philosophical question. And it may very well be that this is the direction we were meant to go in. After all, who wants to sit in a cold cave recovering from wounds? Or go a week without food?
But if we're trying to fix the problem, who knows better than nature? It's just like health: treat the body right, and it recovers.
By the way, something has been making me laugh as I walk through the redwoods on my property: the trees are going to win this battle.
