By the by, more than twice the population of the United States lost power today in India

NEW DELHI--Much of India's electricity supply network collapsed Tuesday in the country's second major outage in two days, affecting more than 680 million people—double the population of the U.S.—and causing business losses estimated to run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Then I heard 378 million. Now 680 million. It's hard to know whose statistics are right. I wonder if there will be a baby boom 9 months from now in India?

Some wag on NPR said "they now hold the silver and the gold" for largest blackouts in human history.
