On January 29th, the world witnessed a groundbreaking achievement as the first-ever four-seat hydrogen internal combustion aircraft prototype completed its maiden flight at Fakucaihu Airport in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. This remarkable feat was made possible by the collaborative efforts of scientists and engineers from Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, signifying a major milestone in the advancement of sustainable aviation technology.

The test pilots of this prototype aircraft provided positive feedback on the aircraft's performance, highlighting its ample power, minimal vibration, and excellent handling characteristics. This successful flight serves as a solid foundation for the upcoming sustained test flights, propelling the development of this innovative technology.

The design and manufacturing of the aircraft's core components are completed domestically in China. The engine power, which underwent rigorous bench testing, achieved an impressive 120kW. This remarkable accomplishment underscores the growing capabilities of China's aerospace industry in the realm of advanced aircraft technologies.

The successful maiden flight of the four-seat hydrogen internal combustion aircraft prototype not only demonstrates the country's commitment to sustainable aviation but also paves the way for a greener and more efficient future in the aviation industry...more

They will do for hydrogen what they have done to big screen TV's. Have you seen the latest prices? Many people are having trouble sleeping. It's the upending of that industry.

This is unsurprising since they have long been interested in coal to fluid fuels scenarios. NNadir Feb 2024 #4

Could it be that they actually took the jobs the US literally gave them and then turned into a manufacturing powerhouse that is dominating the world?

Imagine if the US hadn't wasted trillions of dollars on world hegemony over the last 20+ years.

corporations moved to China to avoid new pollution controls by the EPA. Reagan started the EPA just for that reason. Then he loved Russia.

Sinopec starts world's largest green hydrogen plant

Construction began on Tuesday on the world's largest green hydrogen project, generated from solar energy, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, to aid China's move toward sustainable energy, said its operator China Petroleum and Chemical Corp.

The project is also China's first 10,000-ton level solar-generated green hydrogen demonstration project. With a total investment of around 3 billion yuan ($470 million), it is expected to produce 20,000 tons of green hydrogen annually after being put into operation in 2023.

The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons each year and help further facilitate China's efforts to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, said the domestic oil giant, also known as Sinopec, the world's top refiner by capacity.

An analyst said the project plays a key role in ensuring economic and social development in Xinjiang while also ensuring domestic energy security.

SINGAPORE, Dec 11 (Reuters) - China's State Power Investment Corp announced a 42 billion yuan ($5.85 billion) investment plan in northeast China to produce fuel from hydrogen produced from wind power, according to a company official and a local government report.
The projects, that include a 3.5 gigawatt wind power plant, a 164,000 metric ton per year hydrogen-making facility and 400,000 tpy each of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and methanol, will be built in Qiqihaer city of Heilongjiang province, according to a report carried on the city's official WeChat platform.
SPIC will first build a 10,000-tpy pilot plant making SAF from wind power based hydrogen applying technology from Tsing Energy Development Co, the report said, billing the project the first of its kind in China.
The report did not give a timeline building these plants, but a senior Chinese industry executive familiar with the investment told Reuters the SAF plant is slated for first fuel in late 2025.
